I am a third-year undergraduate student studying political economy (gpa = 3.65) and am currently studying abroad to study econometrics and finance. i really want to go into financial services sector, but all my extracurricular and job experience has been journalism-related. i got into journalism because i like fact-finding and research. but more than that, i really like market research and analyzing firms' perfor mances, but i have absolute zero experience. all my friends had at least one position in a finance-related work and now are applying to all these investment banks. i am desperately trying to find an internship in finance-related area right now, but being already a third-year student, i am not really sure if i am just fighting with… [cont.]

A. Just your asking this question is insightful and demonstrates that you know what you want, and you know what employers most likely want. Can you prepare one or two analyses of companies, stocks or sectors that you can get reviewed by a peer or a professor or a friendly alumnus before then appending it to your extremely well written cover letter and resume? In the resume, instead of highlighting the COMPANY, position, go with position name, company. So you can focus on the fact finding and writing. There is a huge market for your skills but it will take you a little longer to find the exact right job. Most of these jobs are not going to people directly out of college, so you will need to do some informational interviews (alumni,… [cont.]
